Microsoft announced yesterday that it is now removing the Xbox Gold requirement for streaming apps such as Hulu or Netflix on the Xbox One and the Xbox 360. The information comes to light thanks to talks about upcoming announcements at E3 which takes place in June. This means that Xbox owners do not have to pay Microsoft in order to be able to use these apps and instead will be able to use them for free or will have to pay the subscription to the providers of the service only.

With Amazon launching its own streaming service recently and with other services on the market eg. Roku and Chromecast, this was probably a good move for Microsoft to ensure that it could keep up with the competition and with Playstation 4 users not having to pay the membership fee to access the apps it brings Microsoft on a par with its competition.
Microsoft is also facing massive amounts of competition in the music streaming services front in addition to the video streaming. With Apple lining up Beats Audio and with there being several other competing services like Pandora, Songza, Google Play Music and others, Microsoft really has to make moves like this in order to entice users to its services.
